Affinity vs HubSpot for venture capital

Reviewed

Short answer: Affinity for a fund whose deals come through relationships and introductions; HubSpot for a team running a sales or inbound-marketing motion, or a fund that needs to start near $0.

Both can hold a deal pipeline and log email and meetings. The difference is where the records come from: Affinity lists automatic activity capture across email and calendar on every plan, while HubSpot logs activity mainly for contacts that already exist in the CRM.

Verdict

Affinity, for venture and private-equity teams. Its Essential plan captures email and calendar activity automatically, scores relationships, and keeps the full interaction history, and it holds the Relationship Intelligence slot in our Investor Stack. Pick HubSpot if you also run sales or inbound marketing, or if $2,000 per user per year is more than the fund can carry today.

Relationships or a sales pipeline

Affinity is built for private capital: its Essential plan pairs deal pipeline tracking with relationship scoring and a complete interaction history, so a team can see who knows a founder or co-investor best. HubSpot's Sales Hub is built for sales teams moving prospects through stages, on a platform that also sells Marketing Hub for forms, landing pages, and email campaigns.

If your deals come through introductions rather than inbound leads, that is the case Affinity is designed around.

What each captures automatically

A CRM that depends on people logging each meeting goes stale, because logging is a discretionary step after every call. Affinity lists automatic activity capture across email and calendar on every plan.

HubSpot automates part of this. A connected calendar logs meetings, but only on contacts that already exist in HubSpot, it doesn't create contacts from meeting guests, and events from before you connect don't sync. Past emails are logged from Gmail or Outlook through HubSpot's extension, and inbox automation fills in contact details from new emails only.

What it costs

Affinity Essential is $2,000 per user per year: $10,000 a year for a five-person investment team. Scale and Advanced are $2,300 and $2,700.

HubSpot Sales Hub is free for up to 2 users. Starter is listed from $7 per seat per month on annual billing, or $20 monthly. Professional is $90 per seat per month with an annual commitment, or $100 monthly, plus a one-time $1,500 onboarding fee. Marketing tools are a separate Marketing Hub subscription.
