Why Grain holds the slot
Founder calls are the raw material of a deal memo, and typing notes during one costs attention. Grain records Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, and Slack huddles, or captures from the desktop on Mac and Windows without a bot, and writes AI notes.
From Starter, meeting length and history are unlimited, so a 90-minute partner meeting is recorded whole and kept. Transcripts download in Markdown, DOCX, PDF, SRT, or VTT on every plan.
What it costs
Free covers unlimited meetings up to 45 minutes each, with 30 days of history. Starter is $15 per seat per month billed annually, or $19 monthly. Business is $29, or $39 monthly, and adds HubSpot and Salesforce sync. Enterprise is custom, with SAML SSO.
Grain charges only for seats that record, upload, or import meetings; colleagues who only watch join as free viewers. It lists no required annual contract and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Startups in Grain's partner network get 50% off Starter or Business for 6 months.
Where Grain falls short
Grain's weak points for an investment team:
- No native Affinity integration, so notes reach our CRM pick through Zapier or Grain's API.
- Grain's pages don't say whether recordings train AI models; they say no customer data is retained when its LLM providers generate notes. Ask for training terms in writing before recording confidential founder calls.
- No mobile app is listed for in-person meetings. Otter has iOS and Android apps.
What would cost Grain the slot
If meeting-length or history caps came to paid plans, or exports or the API moved up a tier, we would reopen the slot. A rival with the same limits and a native Affinity integration would get a hearing.
Compared with alternatives
- Grain vs Otter
Grain for an investment team that records every founder call and wants unlimited meeting length, exports, and an API from its first paid plan; Otter for a solo investor who wants the lowest price and a mobile app for in-person meetings.
